Susan Wirth, Hope and Beauty, 2021, video documentation of projection, 8 mins 51 sec
Susan Wirth’s Hope and Beauty documents the seasonal changes and symbiotic relationships of the unique Bunjil Reserve ecosystem through a series of photographs of flowers from the site. The flowers are then projected in a loop onto a rippling silk screen dyed with blackberries from the bottom paddock of the artist’s neighbours’ property. These elements draw on the multiplicity of layers that emerge through looking. This projection was first shown in the Paradoxa Collective exhibition, Satellite of Love and was visible at night through the Eltham Library windows, a continuously looping reminder of connections found in nature.
